Did you know that the DigitalSoaps staff grew from a single owner to three people? Earlier this summer you met Becky Campbell, our very first intern and now we wanted to introduce you to a person that many of you don’t see or hear from, our wholesale coordinator, Mark Whitney. Get to know the man behind the many, many plans, in this fabulous interview.
What do you love about soap and DigitalSoaps? What drew you to DigitalSoaps?
What I love best about DigitalSoaps is our freedom to innovate. The growth of an idea from “Wouldn’t it be cool if?” to “We’re ready to ship!” is frequent and fun. I was drawn to DigitalSoaps by watching Chrystal develop the business. She worked so hard at it, and loved it so hard, I wanted to know what it was all about.
You are a photography pro, what brought you to that?
I always wanted an SLR camera when I was a kid. I admired, and still admire, photojournalists and people who help document the human experience.
About a year ago, I started shooting with a DSLR, and there just haven’t been many times since when I’ve been awake and not had the camera around my neck. I love it.
What is your favorite part about being the wholesale coordinator at DigitalSoaps?
There are a lot of great things about this job. I get to meet fun people, I get to negotiate big deals, and sometimes we get to play video games or watch anime for research purposes. That said, it’s the little details that keep me going. I love the minutia of a wholesale order, making sure that every piece fits financially for both parties, and with the required timelines.
If you were to battle two Pokemon against each other, which ones, and which one would win?
*Imagines a kid butting two dolls together in mock battle.*
I think we all know it’s one trainer per Pokemon. I would bring Psyduck to any fight, though, and sometimes we would win. =)
In five years I will be…
Replaying Ocarina of Time on the N64. For sure.
What is your current fandom obsession?
Stranger Things has gotten my attention, and I love it. I think they really nailed the 80’s style, while bringing a fresh story to the table.
What is your lifelong geeky obsession?
I’ve got to put two in here. I could probably put in 10, but I feel like that robs them of some stature. Cowboy Bebop has had my heart since it came out. I really love the music, the stories, and the characters. I am Spike, in his Zen moments, Jet, when the ship breaks, Faye, when luck just won’t go my way, and Edward, never seeing a tech problem that I can’t attack head on.
For the second, I have to go with a lesser known anime, Speed Grapher. It’s a story about a photojournalist who acquires mysterious powers. What’s not to like? Keep in mind it’s NSFW due to some nudity, so don’t google it if you’re on the job!
What is your life philosophy?
Leave things better than you found it.
What is your favorite kind of sandwich?
Philly Steak and Cheese from Da Vinci’s. Double meat. Double cheese. Provolone. The works (peppers, onions, and mushrooms.) Hot sauce.
What’s your favorite radio program?
“Welcome to Night Vale!”
Thank you so much to Mark Whitney, our wholesale coordinator and photographer for DigitalSoaps. We don’t know where we would be without you. If you are a fan of our product photography or have received wholesale orders from DigitalSoaps, be sure to give Mark a shout-out on our Facebook page or Instagram account.
We want to keep making the most nerdy soaps and bath & body products for you to enjoy and letting us know what you like helps us to do that. Game Over, Grime!
